Electric Vehicle Charging (EV)

In the UK, EV chargers are categorized by speed as Slow, Fast, Rapid, and Ultra-Rapid (3-350kW), while connector types include the standard Type 2 (Mennekes for AC) and the DC rapid connectors, CCS (Combined Charging System) and CHAdeMO, used by different EV models

Types of chargers in the UK

Type 1 (J1772)

An older connector, found on some early EVs, that has been largely replaced by Type 2. You might see it on some older models or in different markets, but Type 2 is dominant in the UK.

Type 2 (MENNEKES)

This is the standard connector for most EVs and charge points in the UK and Europe. It's used for both slow and fast charging.

CHAdeMO

An older DC rapid charging standard, used by some EVs such as the Nissan Leaf, but it is being phased out on newer models.
